Reflection on Student Feedback Tool Available for Faculty
Our new Faculty Worksheet – Reflection on Student Feedback is a structured teaching tool to help faculty reflect on student feedback collected throughout the term. Reflection is an integral step in improving teaching practice.
The worksheet can be found on the Teaching Survey Dashboard and contains links to helpful resources, guided reflection prompts, and space to record:
- Summaries of student feedback – themes, concerns, and suggestions.
- Responses to student feedback – what action did you take?
- Outcomes – did actions make an impact?
The worksheet will be available throughout the term until two weeks after final Teaching Survey results are released. A final version of the worksheet will be available only to the faculty member and may be shared or used at their discretion.
Collecting student feedback throughout the term provides valuable insights and informs teaching practices.
Additional resources for gathering, interpreting, and using student feedback:
- Request a Pre-course Survey to collect important information about in-coming students that can be used to inform course design. Learn more about Pre-course Surveys.
- Follow-up by requesting a Midterm Course Survey to gauge how things are going mid-way through the term. Learn more about Midterm Course Surveys.
- End-of-term Teaching Surveys provide students with an opportunity to reflect on the entirety of the course. Learn more about end-of-term Teaching Surveys.
- Our timeline lists important dates when pre, mid, and end-of-term surveys are open and available to request.
- If you made changes to the course based on early or midterm feedback, follow-up with students to see if they made a difference. (Adding custom questions to midterm or end-of-term teaching surveys is one way to track outcomes.)
- Encourage students to respond and provide meaningful feedback.
- The Teaching Center has resources to assist faculty with interpreting and using student feedback.
Teaching Consultants are on hand to offer additional tools and services to assist faculty with formative assessment.
