Requesting Customized Teaching Support for Your Department or School

In addition to supporting individual instructors, Pedagogy, Practice, and Assessment can tailor many of its services and resources to the specific needs and interests of your department or school upon request. Below, you will find a list of our services, the notice we would need to prepare that service, the minimum number of instructors participants required, and how to submit a request.

Please note that schools and departments are responsible for securing and registering participants for these services.

Workshops We can customize the content and duration of any of our existing one-time workshops. Two weeks/ At least 10 participants Browse our list of workshops that can be customized. Or you can submit a Unit Workshop Request Form.
Seminars Seminars are sustained, cohort-based faculty development experiences that take place over the course of a semester or a year. Seminars can be customized for groups of instructors who want to take a deep dive into a project or topic of interest.
Because seminars are time and effort-intensive, requests will be accommodated as capacity allows. Faculty who commit to participating should be prepared to spend 4 hours/month on seminar meetings and work.

Group consultations or Q&As If a group of instructors is experiencing similar teaching challenges, we can schedule a group consultation or Q&A to help brainstorm solutions to those issues. One week/ At least three participants Contact us at teaching@pitt.edu.
Events Pedagogy, Practice, and Assessment can contribute to existing events in your department or school, such as new faculty orientations, lunch and learns, faculty retreat days, and other professional development events. Facilitated sessions on assessment of teaching topics The Assessment of Teaching Initiative can help develop and facilitate sessions on conducting and offering feedback on peer observations and reviews, interpreting and using midterm or OMET teaching survey results, curriculum mapping, and more. Curated resources We can work with your school or department to develop lists of curated resources and bibliographies on specific topics of interest. Varies/Resource must be for use by more than one instructor Contact us at teaching@pitt.edu.
