Q: What work experiences led you to this position with the University Center for Teaching and Learning?
A: I have extensive administrative experience spanning various facets of the real estate industry, ranging from roles in property management to serving as an escrow officer at a title company. My family’s relocation from California to Pennsylvania in 2011 marked a pivotal moment that opened doors for me to venture into higher education. Throughout my journey, I’ve been fortunate to have mentors and supervisors who prioritize professional development, guiding me along an upward trajectory within the University. I began my Pitt career in the Office of Measurement and Evaluation of Teaching (OMET), which later merged with the Center for Instructional Design and Development, now known as The Center for Teaching and Learning. I spent nearly two years in the Department of Medicine, contributing to establishing The Aging Institute before returning to the Teaching Center in 2019.

Q: What’s the most exciting project you’re working on right now? What makes it so interesting?
A: Overseeing provost-sponsored initiatives since 2019 involves constant change and seizing opportunities to enhance the process. While it may not directly address the current excitement, the dynamic nature of this role, filled with continuous change and improvement opportunities, keeps me engaged and on my toes.

Recently, I decided to accept a leadership role within the University of Pittsburgh Staff Council. In this capacity, I can combine my current event and project management skills and my social work background. The role offers valuable opportunities to engage with University senior leadership, providing insights into the workings and challenges of a large academic institution. It will allow me to actively contribute to strategy, implement vision, and advocate for enhancing working conditions for fellow Pitt staff members.

Q: What do you love most about your job and why?
A: I am fortunate to collaborate with an exceptional team in the Teaching Center whom I trust and can depend on for support in fulfilling my responsibilities. Moreover, having supportive leaders who entrust me with tasks leading to opportunities within the University is something I value. This trust allows me to build connections and foster collaborations with diverse departments across campus, which has proven beneficial and essential for my professional growth.
