Stephen Butler, EdD, is the Director of Online Programs for the Pitt Online unit of the University Center for Teaching and Learning. Stephen provides leadership for the planning, development, implementation, staffing, quality assurance, and faculty services supporting online instruction for the University. Along with ensuring the quality and growth of online programs, MOOCs and Continuing Education courses, he serves as a liaison with campus directors of school-based online programs offered within Pitt Online and collaborates with external vendors on contract services for various schools. Stephen holds a Doctor of Education degree in Instructional Leadership and is also an alumnus of the University of Pittsburgh School of Education, earning a Master of Education (MEd) in Higher Education Administration and Policy Studies. With over 20 years of experience in higher education, he has served in a number of leadership and management positions in academic administration, curriculum leadership, course development as well as teaching. Stephen also has a background in art and design, having worked previously as a designer and creative director for various organizations.
