*Note: Are you experiencing permission errors when trying to log in to Panopto or videos not having up-to date information? Try these troubleshooting tips on our Browser Support page.

Similar to Folder Settings, each individual video presentation in Panopto has their own unique Video Settings that can be independently managed. Many of these settings will be dependent on the parent folder settings.

To access your Panopto Video Settings, mouse over a video that you have creator access to, and find the gray “Settings” option that should appear beneath it, as illustrated below. If you do not see this appear, you may not have creator access to this video, and you should consult with another creator in order to gain access to that video.

Settings button

Note* You will also see a shortcut that takes you directly to the Share tab, as well as the Editor. You can also view view statistics by clicking on Stats, as well as Delete your video.

Overview

The first tab that you’ll see is the Overview tab, which aptly gives you an overview of your video settings.

Settings Overview

  1. Video Name – Can be modified by clicking the Edit button.
  2. Folder Location – Folder your video is currently in, from which your video should automatically inherit permissions. This too can be modified by clicking the Edit button.
  3. Viewer Link – The URL that will launch your video. This can be copied and pasted into a web link or email, and can be accessed even while the video is still encoding and cannot be opened directly, which can be helpful if you are in a hurry.
  4. Additional Video Information – Includes the owner, the date of the upload, and the duration.
  5. Video Description – Optional.
  6.  View Link – Launch the video.
  7. Share Link – Takes you to the Share tab.

    Embed window
  3. Parent Folder – Navigates to the parent folder’s Folder Settings. This will allow you to modify the share settings for not just this video, but all videos in this folder. It will also allow you to assign users as additional creators in that folder, as the video share tab only allows you to assign viewers.
  4. Share Permissions – If, rather than add specific individuals, you’d rather set your video to be generally accessible, you can open this menu to set the following permissions.
    1. Anyone at your organization with the link – Opens the content to anyone with an account on Canvas with the link (including those outside of your course but not the entire internet).
    2. Anyone at your organization – Makes your video available to all of Pitt.
    3. Anyone with the link – Allows anyone on the internet to access your video with a link.
    4. Public on the web – Makes your video publicly searchable on the internet.
  5. List of users who currently have access to this video –They can either be individual users, or groups of users, which can be automatically generated student lists by provisioning your course in Canvas.

Outputs

Clicking the Outputs tab to go over the various ways you can deliver your video.

Settings Outputs

  1. Viewer Link – similar to the one located in Overview and Share. This can be copied and pasted into a web link or email, and can be accessed even while the video is still encoding and cannot be opened directly, which can be helpful if you are in a hurry.
  2. View Podcast – View this video podcast in a browser window. The second stream is the “Video Podcast,” which is a physical video file which can be downloaded by your viewers. This will not look quite the same as your presentation in the Panopto viewer link above, nor will it retain all of the functions of an online presentation. This link can be copied to sent to your viewers.
  3. Download Podcast – Download this video file to your computer. This link can be copied to be sent to your viewers.
  4. Podcast View Settings –  Control the way this podcast looks. This setting is only important if you have multiple video streams. If you only have one stream, it will default to that stream only. The view types include:
    1. Primary Video Only – Only displays the primary stream. This will usually be the webcam recording.
    2. Secondary Video Only – Only displays the secondary stream. This will usually be the PowerPoint or screen recording.
    3. Picture-in-Picture – Displays your secondary (PowerPoint or screen recording) stream, with the primary (webcam) in the bottom right corner. Be wary when using this method, as the primary screen may cover important data in the secondary screen.
    4. Side-by-Side – Places the primary and second displays next to each other, with the primary reduced in size. This should be the default setting.
    5. Tiled – Tiles all video streams in a checkerboard pattern. This is useful if you have more than 2 streams.
  5. Embed Code – similar to the one located in Share. This code can be copy/pasted into an html page to display your presentation in-line with a web page.
  6. Share Settings – Takes you back to the Share tab.
  7. Audio-only version of the podcast – Play or download them from here. Either of these links can be copied and sent to your viewers.
