Special Edition: Concluding Event For DIFD

Join us on June 12 in Posvar Hall for "Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Teaching and Learning," the final event of the Provost’s Diversity Institute for Faculty Development. Attendees will explore how to approach diversity, equity, and inclusion during the coming academic year. Faculty who were members of the Extended Diversity community in 2018-19 will offer short presentations on their work. Following the presentations will be a book giveaway as well as a poster session where participants can talk one-on-one with the presenters. Please register online to attend.

Teaching Center Update for May 31, 2019

The University of Pittsburgh will host the fourth annual Diversity Retreat: Instituting a Culture of Inclusion in Alumni Hall on June 25. The event will feature an array of engaging workshops, roundtable discussions, poster presentations, a community panel session, and featured presentations that outline how we can foster an equitable, just, and inclusive campus community. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. The retreat is free to attend, but seating is limited and registration will close when capacity is met. Register online to attend, and view the event flyer for more information.

Teaching Center Update for May 22, 2019

The Teaching Center's Academic Digital Media team has been collaborating with faculty from the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences on the production of "Flash Classes,” a hyper-abbreviated lecture series on different topics. In the latest edition Dr. Sophia Choukas-Bradley, assistant professor in the Department of Psychology, presents a flash class entitled, "Adolescence in 90 seconds."

Senior Lecturer Laurel B. Roberts, one of the instructors for Foundations of Biology 1, says the Course Incubator Project to transform large enrollment classes has opened new doors and new ways of thinking among biology instructors.

Teaching Center Update for May 17, 2019

The University of Pittsburgh's Department of Biological Sciences set out to enhance a sense of community among students in the Foundations of Biology 1 course during the Fall 2018 and Spring 2019 semesters. Through this Course Incubator project that utilized stickers, syllabus infographics, and roaming lecturers, faculty found new ways to think about transforming large enrollment classes. Teaching Center Update for May 10, 2019

The Provost’s Diversity Institute for Faculty Development continues in May with a couple of featured workshops:

Visit the Provost's Diversity Institute for Faculty Development web page for more information and to register for all or individual sessions. Faculty on less than a 12-month contract are eligible to receive a stipend. The stipends range from $100 to $250 per session for participating in these workshops. Stipends will be paid at the conclusion of the 2019 Provost’s Diversity Institute for Faculty Development.

In the latest edition of "Headlines," Professor Sam Dickerson and Dr. Sera Thornton discuss the Light Board in the Teaching Center's Media Creation Lab. Dickerson, a faculty member in the Swanson School of Engineering, has worked with the Teaching Center to produce educational video his students are "motivated to watch." Learn more in Headlines!
